Rare 19th Century Memorabilia and Vintage Cards Shine in Robert Edward Auctions’ January Encore Event

The January Encore Auction at Robert Edward Auctions is a must-visit for collectors of vintage sports cards and memorabilia. This treasure trove of sports history features rare items dating back to the 19th century, offering a diverse and historically rich collection that appeals to collectors of all types.

One of the highlights of the auction is a signed 1842 receipt by baseball executive Alexander Cartwright. REA President Brian Dwyer noted that the auction boasts an impressive array of signed items and iconic cards, catering to collectors of all types. Collectors will be delighted to find signatures from legendary figures like Lou Gehrig, Walter Johnson, and Honus Wagner. One unique item in the auction is an 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco John Clarkson Throwing card, graded PSA EX 5. This meticulously graded card is a prized possession for any serious collector.

The auction also features several other notable signed items. One of these is an 1883 Harry Wright-signed scorecard from a game between Philadelphia and Wright’s Providence Grays. This scorecard offers a glimpse into the early days of organized baseball and the players who made it possible. Other signed items include a 1938 Lou Gehrig-signed postcard, a 1924 Walter Johnson-signed album page, a 1939 Honus Wagner-signed Baseball Centennial First-Day Cover, and a Babe Ruth cut signature. These items allow collectors to own a piece of history and cherish the legacy of these iconic sports figures.

In addition to the signed items, the auction offers a wide selection of vintage cards. One standout card is the 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle card, a highly sought-after collectible. Other notable cards include the 1914 E145 Cracker Jack Grover Alexander rookie card, the 1910-1911 M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card, several 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron rookie cards, and the 1957 Topps Football Johnny Unitas rookie card. These cards hold significant value and provide a glimpse into the early days of card collecting.

For avid card collectors, there are also hundreds of T206 cards available, including rare finds like the Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background, as well as cards with rare Carolina Brights backs. The auction even offers modern card highlights such as the 1986 Topps Football Steve Young rookie card and early Michael Jordan cards from 1984 and 1985.
